'Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness (Part 1)' Out Now!
The first time we heard the title Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness we all laughed. For every album, the joke titles are a secret pleasure, but they're so in the moment that they're also kind of the truest. It really matches the spirit of how we made this thing, which is a spontaneous snapshot of where we are as a band.
After Forcefield Greg, Josh and I all left Toronto (to LA, NYC and "up north” - Graham holding down the fort in T.O. wut!) which made the time we had to record together more precious. We had a few short sessions that were packed with creative energy and it gave the tracks this raw, off the cuff feeling. I think the process took all of us back to the days of recording our first EP (ALIC is 10 years old now - holy shit!!).
We've been playing songs about love and guilt and heartbreak in a broad sense for a long time, however each of these songs zones in on a really specific personal feeling for me. "Not My Girl" is a 'timeline story' about someone I lived with but was usually apart from. "The Ocean" is about changing relationships in my family and a complicated Xmas. "Losing You" is about my friend going through a ton of anxiety because someone ghosted her, and I really related to that.
We don't know why people relate to our music exactly, but we're all totally honoured that they do. We hope these are 5 more songs you relate to and blast into your ears ad infinitum (...intended). We will be happy as hell if we get to hear you singing them with us when we roll through on tour. And stay tuned later this year for Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness Part 2: Return of Jafar!!!!!
